SPECIAL TELEGRAMS. {From our Own Correspondent )
Auckland, Wednesday night. Commissioner Kemp has "received positive information of Winiata being near Te Kuiti. He is moving about from place to place, fearful of being given up, and awaiting Tawhiao's return. A native is endeavouring •to secure 'his -delivery to justice. There is no doubt -but the reported con. fession of Winiata, published in the " Cross " is a fabrication. Major Mairs name was unwarrantably mixed up in it. All that officer did — it turns out — was to telegraph to Mr Cotmnis'iioner Kemp, that " there was -a story current that a haff caste from the North Slvci'e hud assisted in the murder and bad gone norlh." also that u one of the Weapons used in killing Packer had been thrown -into a well." s Tlr8 ' remainder was probably received from a native source.
