HAMILTON WEST SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of this Committee was held at G Wynne's Hotel on Friday evening last. Present : Mr Jones (in the chair) ; Messrs Martin, Young, McPherson, and Gelling. , After the minutes of the previous laeet- ' ing had been read, Mr Martin moved that the Chairman (Mr Jomps) and Mr Gelling bo requested to intei view our member — Mr Cox — and request him to übo his lntlueiice in getting it school site for Hamilton West — Carried. Resolved — "That application be made to the General Government for 5 acres of the stockade reserve us a grant for a school site for the Hamilton West patriot, in accord moe with the proposed grant by the Central Board, m order to comply with their request, viz., to hand over the title of sune." < Resolved — " That Mr Panvers be requested to attend tho School Committee the meeting following Monday at 7.30 p.m., for the purpoaeof giving any information or auy dooumeut books, <&c,, he may have >necee3ary -for the workm- of the Board." Air Gelling moved, and Mr McPherson seconded, " That the Board pay the sum of 2a 6d per month for tho use of a room in the Hamilton Hotel in which to hold their meet ings." — Carried, A tracing of tho site asked for a sohool reserve was attached to the resolution, asking for a site, and enclosed with a letter to the representative of Waipa. A. Cor, E>q. Tho following is a copy of the letter: — Hamilton, Febv. 11, 1876, To A. Cox, Esq, M.H.R., * Sir, — We, the unde Mgned, respectfully beg you will be good enough to forward the enclosed application to .ilie proper authority, and kindly use your great influence both as a meiuber-for the district and a gentleman of high social {Mxsifion ; such being of much importance iv obtaining favour in Blatters of this nature By promoting und furthering "this request, and obtaining .this grant, you will be conferring a substantial and lasting favour on the people of the dvst-rict, and facilitating matters the School Committee are endeavouring their -utaioat to perfect, namely, to obtain a site-for a school-house and teacher's residence ;_ther, to vest such graut in the hands of the proper authorite% then to raise subscriptions to the amount of £75 ; and finally, to build a Bchool.
