PROMOTION OF GOOD FARMING.
We lately noticed in an Australian papor «the suggestion that a prize should be :givea by H local agricultural association 4or phe beat kept farm. So excellent a suggestion iB wull worchy the attention -of oar otvn agricultural society, and a ipiize given for such object by the Waiknto •association would do inuuti to bring about the state of farming desired by Mr McLean. Such prize should, we think, not bu a money one, but a gold or silver medal, or piece of plate, hold by the recipient causa honoris. The competition fur this prizn would effect improvements in the condition of many farms and lead to increased care and attention in the growth and cultivation of crops. The condition of the land and stock, and the examinations and comparisons by the judge.s, necessary to arrive at the decision, would do much to stimulate a feeling of emula•fcion in these matters that would all tend to the practical improvement of agriculture amongst us. Intending competitors wonld have, of course, to give notice of such intention, and in the case of so m taresting a report as that of the judges on the different farms visited, the Waikato Times, as a matter of pubho information, would not only feel too happy to give it the bene£t of its large *nd extended circulation, bat would send a special re pjrter "with the judges on suoh occasion.
