THE NGARUAWABIA AND HAMILTON EAST ROAD.
Sib, — Seeing in almost every issue of jour sheer, public attention called to 'the dis-repnirof gome of our Highways, permit me to bring under your notice ft roud that appenrs to havebeeu-fo gotten by everybody. The Kinliiriroa Highway Trustees havt, 1 believe, an active and energetic' Collector who forgets not to duly receive the ltttcs levud in thf> neighbourhood of Ngaruavralua and no doubt nl«o a» duly hands them over to tho aboto named body to be spent by them. Where, or in doing what? not certainly in improving tho thoroughfare -where- collected, which still remains in a beautiful state of nature. I understand them are «ereral settlers endeavouring to git on their land in this district, but are prevented from bo doing by the want of access thereto. Paying ' Highway rarps yenr after yratf, is not by any means pleasant, more especially since nothing but a receipt is qo 1 for it and the road remains only on paper. A f«w daj>o ago a subscription list wa« taken round this townnhip for funds to assist in building a bridge and opening up the only pnfsable line of road between Hamilton East and. tins place, 'giving these- «ettleis ici-ess to try and open up th« count*y and make for themeelTOs and families a home in our undit. Now thut the Kmlway and Bridge bero will shortly be completed, this road Wouid benefit a considerable number. Trusting the Trustees will sco fit to accept the >very liberal offer made or about to be mudo to them, and do something for t his road, and thut give tardy justic* to this neglected corner of their duriot— l aua, to, Odshrveb. » JNgMU»w*bi» 251h Jaiuary, 1878.
