CAMBRIDGE.
January 17, J876. Intimation has been leceived here that Dr Pollen may be expected up the early part of this woek. It would bo well if a deputation of the settlers would wait upon him with relerence to the Taupo road. If a promise be not exacted from the Government now it is probable thit this summer will slip away ag.iin with this I'nporuut work still undone. Mr Firth has fluid that tlie natives no longer oppose the undertaking, so th vt the (io\ eminent have no reasonable excuse for delaying tiny longer the commencement at least of tins road. It is altogether unnecessary to point out the advantages to the district winch are attendant upon its completion. It is sufficient to say that it will bring the lake district nearer by many miles to Auckland, and within the leach of tra\ellers who like our woithy M.H.R. would rather go SCO miles on land than one on sea, but who at the same time do not relish, the ride over rough country, which is at present unavoidable. Added to the drawbacks of the Tauranga route, one loses the beautiful agricultural scenery of the Waikato and the other districts south of Auckland. We look forward to the time when the necessity for writing suoh a letter as the one from an Australian traveller in one of the Auckland papers will have passed away. — Own Co-respondent.
