Everything "here ds flat, stale, and unprofitable. The excitement anent the ■election has all passed over like the base, less fabric of a dream, and not left a wreck behind it. The oldest inhabitant says, ""things generally" have not been so dull ifor the last ten years. There is no native 'trade, no tiade at all worth speaking of, -and We cannot expect any " hoot" from •our dusky skinned neighbours until after -the crops are in, at the end of March. One hundred and ninety pounds has been 'received from the Defence Minister to •rebuild the Bridge. More power to him! The clops altogether are not looking by •any means badly, notwithstanding the damage done by late rains to potatoes and wheat. The Alexandra Towu Board are 'really behaving in a most disgraceful and 'reprehensible manner regarding the ferry. At the present time travellers are con«veyed over the river which divides the townships by means of a ricketty old Maori canoe, absolutely unsafe, and it ia nothing less than Providential that no feooident has happened as yet, audthat you have not been called upon to report an inquest. Why do not the Board erect a cheap punt ? it could easily be managed, and would probably be the means of saving valuable lives. Bepend upon it Mcssionrs, the members of the Highway Board that if any accident does occur you will bo condemned by every thinking man as morally if nofclegally the direct cause by your culpable neglect, and be " scouted accordingly."
