RAGLAN. (From a Special Correspondent.) January 11th.

During the hours of polling an impromptu meeting was called for the purpose of considering the best line of road to the Waipa. Some thirty settlers were present. Mr T B Hill was voted to the chair, and explained the result of a deputation that waited on His Honor the Superintendent a short time since, on the above subject, and suggested that some practical steps should be taken by themselves to find out a better line than the present. Capt Johnstone advocated the Ko Orangi track which some years ago the natives promised to form into a dray road for the sum of two hundred pounds, which was, he thought, practicable and much shorter than the present one. Mr S Wilson advocated the Ohoutira Creek to Firewood Creek as the best line, and offered to find a native guide at his own expense, to explore the same, and said from his knowledge of the country some excellent land available for settlement, belonging to the Government, would be opened up. T Wilson, Esq, M P C, moved, and Mr Philp seconded, that a subscription list be opened to defray expenses to be incurred in exploring the track, and upwards of eight pounds (£8 ) was subscribed on the spot. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded one of the most unanimous and practical meetings ever held in Raglan.
