CAMBRIDGE. Dec 15th 1875.
A meeting convened by tfie Cbairmaa of the OambriigsTown Board wu held at the National Hotel yesterday, at 3 p m, to take into censidera* fcoa what stops irert necessary to replacs the bridge and to recto re tke oommuaioation between Cambridge and Pukerimu. Representative* of the four Highway Boards were present. The chairman, Mr Tuck, stated that his Board had commurrioated with the Provincial Oorernment. The Superintendent had sent up the Frorincial Engineer, Mr Allrigbt, to make arrangements for a punt, which he pro* mi*ed to procure with the leairt possible &tltfc beimg fully impressed with the great inooarcnienoe the settlers laber under by the unfortunate ilois of the bridge. After a desultory conversation, Mr Selby moved the following resolution, " That this meetittg inform the General Government of the total destruction of the bridge at Cambridge and would respectfully urge on them the necessity of its beiag replaoed with as little delay as possible, it being a work of such magnitude that it altogether beyond the means of the Btstridt Boards," seconded by Mr Forest, and supported by Messrs Bunoiaaan and W L Martya. Aa amendment was proposed 'bjJ'Mr Biohardson, seconded by Mr Socks, thaf ♦This meeting ipaM a / rote of thank* to his Honer the Buperinteedemt for the promptitude i» sending Mr AHrigbt, and also putting himself in communication with the Creneral Goreroment regarding the loss of the bridge at Cambridge, ana hope that no time will be lost in replacing it." The Chairman then pnt the amendment and the resolution to the meeting when the former was carried. A vote of tbariks to the chairmaa brought the meeting to a close.
