TJin>KR {he "heading of " Al«nm3ra," a correspondent of the Auckland " Herald " sits upon this journal a 9 follows :— " Politics are commencing in earnest in Waikato. Me Minn, who first threw down the gauntlet, is making « general canvass, waiMng on friends and foes alike. He is a man much respected where known. What his political creed is, few at present know. He was elected to the Provincial Council, hat -never had the pririlege of • seat. A. strong feeling exists respecting the flic'tafton of Hamilton, which will be used against Mr C<»x, who is regarded as the nominee of a«mall " ring." with the W*.ikato Timks as its mow h- piece. The questions are beinji freely asked. " Who is Mr Cox t What are his claims f Has be not a far greater "interest in the Bonth than here ? Will he not use his influ^nc** on behalf dF his greater interest in the South, and at the cost of hifl constituency P" These are a few of <the matters disturbing the political surface. Major Jackson had the candour to tell McMino, when he celled to -solicit his support, that he had arranged with Mr Cox to retire in his favour twoyeara ago.; but in the event oT \[r Cox not being able to obtain a good majority on the -canvass, he would himself come out at fhe "" eleventh hou»\" Thus, you see, we are to be " arranged " for by two men neither df them wiser or tetter than their neighbours, which it " arranging " the political life of a constituency like buying and sel iug bullocks. On Saturday Me Minn is advertised to addrrss the electors in Alexandra Public Hall. It is exacted that Mr>Rright and Mr Hoohe will b« there. — (Corresponded.)
