HVffi have received the following-account of 'the opening of the New Music Hall atTe Awinnutu. We have referred to the • subject before, bat have great pleasure in i inserting these falter detail* which have 'been kindly forwarded to vi: — The meeting »c celebration ef the opening of the . abo v /ftifliing, whiAh has experienced so % »manj vicissitudes since its commencement, .took place on Friday evening last, and jproved an -entire success. As -advertise 1, ,an instrumental and vocal concert, by dancing which was kept up •until dawn, was the rolt. The con- • course of settlers from, the several parts •of the district and adjoining townships >pt«#ed that this event was considered of >aome importance by the public at large. A Kay, Esq, officiated as Chairman, and • commenced the .proceedings by reading 'the Bnancial statement. [The statement <was published in our last,] The eveniing's -entertainment was then proceeded the introductory musical effort being .a pianoforte duet '^Canary Bird, Qu*diTilles," by Misses Wilson and Mandeno ; .opening-chorus, Rossini's " Carnival," by a numeroas company-; solo by Mra Mclnitosh, "Thy gentle voice," given in her • usual manner. A solo by Mr Sfreele, « The Officers Funeral," was the first to meet 'with an encore, to which he did not -resfcond. A solo by MksK Allen "Jessie's ;Dream," was then given. This beautiful . ballad-received a most enthusiastic and vociferous encore, in answer to which she ..gave "Coming thro' the Rye, which > seemed to give even greater satisfaction. A chorus, "To all you Ladies'," rendered owith good effect by the gentlemen ungws, followed. A solo by Mrs Innis, lhe iLiquid Gem," was pleasingly given. .A comic song by Mr R Kelly in' character, •was ghren with much humour, and pro.duced the usual effect upon the audience, •viz much hilarity. A solo by Miss Mandeno, '" Kate O'Shane;* was sung in her v™™! • correct and feeling manner; solo by Mr J)avy, "The Scout." This song, wnvch possesses at any rate the credit of .originality in its conception, displayed the powers of a naturally fine barytone voice. (Chorus, " The Red Cross Knight. lnis m%nificent glee was rendered in c jmasterly manner, and was considered »y ?B ome, the best of all the choruses. A .-short interval then ensued, after whicn an • opened choi-us, "Blow, Blow, -1-bou Winter Wind," was given by ttfee co m jpany, followed by a comic song by Mr Watson, "Pat of Mallingar," which was .well received and encored. Next cam© <a .duet by the Misses Allen, "Oh-! Wer't \Thou in the cauld blast," and a solo -by Mr Smith, " Far aw^y." Tkis gentleman .gave his song in a most pleasing mannerwith much taste and expression, -eliciting ■an encore to which he responded. A solo rby Miss Mandeno, " The Gipsy's Life," was even better rendered than her previous •effort. This wag followed by an ißfltra- ' meutal solo " The Blue Bells of Scotland " .with variations ; a solo and chorus by Mr .Davy-^The men of merry merry Eng■land* a oborus, from Oberon-in -Fairyland, ■and the National Anthem which terminated ■a nkoat enjoyable musical treat. The move.abie stage was then cleaned aw»y and the limpatient dancers had the gratification of •doing the " light fantastic * -on the best &4U floor in the Waikato.
