At the SaprertJd Coutt James £t»nnett, far an indecent assault at the Thames, was sentenced to six months. The Court occupied all to-day over the arson case against the wife of Conley, waterman, and a verdict of " Not Guilty" was recorded. At the Pakuranga Hunt Club Stranger (Auckland), 1 ; Kate, 2; Gameboy, 3. Faugaballagh, Daniel O'Rorke. Kate and Stranger w<*re the only ones that did not baulk. They took the hurdles jjplpndidly. Kate was winning, hard pres^e I by Stranger, when she fell after taking the last hurdle, giving Stranger the race. In Open Handicap Hurdle Race Auckland Kate maintained the lead throughout and wou easily. Sho took every jump, while all the others baulked. Kate, 1 ; Miiidy Ashore, 2 ; Gatneboy, 3 ; Minnie Athol. The latter fell and rolled ou her rider —Thorpe —breaking his ano<e. The Steeplechase Auckland Kate again wou easily ; Saun^erer, 2. Brooktield is appointed Resident Magistrate, and Fenton District Judge. At the meeting of the Presbytery the Rev. Macuicol was elected Moderator. A motion was carried appointing a Committee to prepare a scheme for establishing a Theological Hail for the preparation of young men for rhe ministry. The Presbytery also adopted an overture to the General Assembly in favour of a minimum salary of two hundred and titty pounds for ministers. The failure of Justices to send Kirby's case to trial has evoked strong adverse comments throughout the city. The schooners Favorite and the Elsinore raced from Russell to Auckland, and anchored within six minutes of each other ; tho Favorite winning. The Tasso and Stag, barques, have arrived from Newcastle with 818 tons of coal. The iuqnest on Lockhart Glass, who cm his turoai from ear to ear with a shearh knife at Moyle's Wharf Hotel, shewed he was suffering from great depression owing to ill health.
Ghahamstown. The Tairua Co.'a crushing is proceeding vigorously, anl a yield of 10 to 12 ozs, to the ton is expected.
