GOOD TEMPLAR ENTERTAINMENT.
At the Good Templar Entertainment on Wednesday night, a spelling bee was •conducted by the Rev W. Calder. A gentleman was crushed beneath the weight of a "pyramid," another went •down over "pustulous," while a third received his quietus "quiescently." A tailor fell * victim to an "i" in "selvedge," though doubtless he often had an eye on it. At " Deuterogan ist" a single man : stood aghast The first prize, a handsome album was won by Mr T. C. Hammond. Two adult and two juvenile classes were held. The card case was won by a young lady, the gold brooch (presented by Mr W. -Good, watchmaker,) by a gentleman, the box of paints and album presented by Messrs Lanjrbridge and Silver, were won by Master LeQaesne and Miss Coleman respectively. i\lr Davidson then recited Tennyson's "Charge of the Light Brigade" w|th considerable dramatic power, securing warm applause. A comic song by Mr Mylrae (encored) and a reading followed. Mr Moore danced a hornpipe in capital cstyle and was encored. The Ethiopian Minstrels then sang a selection of Christy Melodies the solos and choruses being fairly rendered, and interspersed with capital locril hits and conundrums. Messrs Moore and Harkins, the "corner men" were intensely funny. A burlesque spelling bee, containing numerous local allusion, followed, eliciting roars of laughter.
