ORIGINAL POETRY. LIFE.

What is our youth ? a joyous dream Of gay unclouded light, Where all ia happiness we deem, And ocean, mountain, wood and stream, Speak to the heart a joyous theme, With fancies' visions bright. "What is our manhood ? 'tis a fightWhere sordid thoughts control ; JLnd early ieelings, pure and bright, Are hid like stars in cloudy night, 2By worldly thoughts that scorch and blight, And wither up the soul. What is our age:? a waste of care, A dreary wilderness ; Where all we loved and thought 10 fair, Is vanished like the deiert air, — Ajad joy is quenched in sad despair J& And utter hopelessness.
