Alexandra, Friday. There is a heavy fresh in the Waipa river. A n infant daughter of the Maori King, by a Ngatiraaniapoto wife, died yesterday at Tuhis settlement, near Kawhia. Tawbiao's party are now there, and a tangi is going on. There is a great deal of sickness just now amongst the natives, and Dv Waddington has been Bent for by the natives to attend them at Kopua. This is an indication of their appreciation of the benefits of European science.
Auckland, Fiiday evening. The ship John Rennie, made the passage in 106 days. There was a good scene aboard, at a meeting between a levanting husband and his wife who came out in the steamer Somersetshire, The husband professed great joy at meeting with his spou.se again, and said he only leftin a pet. A large crowd assembled on the wharf to see them land. At the Haymarket today, fodder was in demand at an advance over last week's prices. No horse stock was offered at auction. Privately draught horses sold at «£45 and .£5O ; riding horses, £d 15s. The sales of hides and skins were fairly supplied with skins. Hides were in less than usual numbers and last prices were fully sustained. The price given were hides 33s 4d ; calf skins 5 lb 4s ; full wooiled sheep skins. 6s ; inferior, 2s ; dried skins broken 9dlb; wool :— grease, BJd to 9d. The Bench to-day dismissed a case of selling grog on Sunday against the landlord of the Charlemont Hotel, Wakefield Street, on the ground that a man who had taken a long walk in the suburbs for an airing was a bo n a fide traveller.
