RAILWAY WORKS AT MERCER.
The goods sh^d is completed nnd stands ft little losh thin ha'f wny between Mercer and tho old tunnel, in suvh apo-ition that, unless by going a lon;j dibtance iilon^ tho line, a horse and dray could n>>t possibly got at it, and what, it is wanted for now it is built, nobody seems to know. I would suggest that the Government hand it over to the Scliool and Church Committee (tlut is to be fanned next month) for the purpose of holding Divine Service in on Sundays, and school on week-dnys, The engine shed is also nearly finished, and will no doubt be a convenience to those who. will have to use it. Tho turn-table is still lying on the ground whore it has been almost ever since the railway wns opened, and will, it is confidently expected, be put in working order at about the same tune that tho (rain will run through to N^aruawahin, or, in other word*, when it ia not wanted. At present tlie c,ooda for up country have to be shifted from one truck to another on their arrival here, in order to be put on board the barges, whereas, if the turn-table was in working order, they could be tiken out of the Auckland trucks at once into the store, thereby saving a large amount of labor and alco the riuk of damage to the goods, caused by an extra and unnecessary hmdling. — OCCASIONAL Cobrespondeut, August 25th, 1875.
