A terrible double muuler has occured at Frankstoii, near Melbourne. A Publican nmncd Howard, stubbed a woman he was cohabiting with, to the heart, and hilled the barman, who came to her assistance. Father Moore, of Sandhurst, has been committed for trial for marrying a girl under age. The Mayor of Melboui-ne has obtained a legal opinion that the Act of George 111 cited by the Sabbatarians, relative to Sunday recitations, did not apply to the colonies. The Chief Secretary announces the intention of the Government to make up the deficiency of .£200,000 by taxing large land holders so as to buist up the land estate.
Sydnky. Tho Governor's Prorogation Speech refers to the prosperity of the colony and increased revenue. White, for attempting to bribe a member of Parliament, was sentenced to three years.
The Dover Castle has arrived from Belfast with immigrants. Nineteen crises of scailatina occurred aboard, and ten deaths from various causes. The vessel was placed in quarantine. A steamei will convey the immigrants direct to Stewarts Special Settlement, Kati Kati. There was considerable excitement on Change to-daj, the Kuru mi Beach having jumped to three pounds in consequence of specimens coming out. Hunter and Nolan have re-commenced North Shore fortnightly cattle sales.
Gisborne, Wednesday evening, G. G. Mill, confidential cleik of Captain Read, has disappeared. A letter was found asking Read to take care of his children, and saying that suicide was contemplated. Carl Carson of Auckland, left Gisborne in a whaleboat for Maiha. The boat* upset and he was drowned.
