Amo>gst other Parliamentary papers are the several annual reports on the Armed Constabulary Force. We gather from Col. Lyon's report that at the close of the last -financial year, the force consisted of 6GB of *U ranks. Daring tho year, 211 were enrolled, and M'-i discharged, leaving the strength of the Foreu at t l .e clcse of the'year, 737. 'lhe native- coutuiprnt, eonsibtiug of 2 officers, 3 t»er%\*, and 39 privates under <'nfjt»iu M>iir, aud 2 officers, 5 sergis, and 41 privates under Capt Preere, has b>eli oawlirawatod with lhe Armed Constabulary. There are £6 stations in the Nor h Island occupied by the Constabulary .^exclusive of Auckland, a»,d the depot at Wellington. The efficiency in the n<*e of the Snider rifle has been well maintained, the per centage of marksmen shewing a considerable increase over tha figures of merit for last yeer. Forty?ii members of the Force qualified far the Colonial Prize Firing, being an increase of four over last year. Four men attended the Prize Firing as Government compeii'ors, .and thirteen went at their own expease. The Cavalry Chain. >ion lV;t was won by a member of the Mounted Force, and a foot Countable tied with the winner of the Infantry Belt, liuriy-ftve oth. r p r izes worr taken by members of tho Armed Constabulary. During th< j year, 600 Snider carbines were importtd fiom Eng'and to replace the medium Snider rifles, but they were furnished with long swoid bayonets instead of short saw-backed knife bayonets. 700 of Vie required- kind have, however, since been received, and are being issued. The others have been issued to Volunteer Artillery. Lt. Col. Lyon commends Inspector Brohain. and tho force under his command. It is stated that it is only by the .greatest exertions of the Police that the graver cases of crime receive due attention, and petty thefts are to a great extent unpunished owing to the paueify of constables. The discipline of the jForce is well maintained, the offences being of a trivial nature. We shall publish Major X laro'a report in a future issue.

We had intended publishing with the. present issue a supplement containing a quantity of correspondence and other local matter, but alas, for all human schemes ! the f»trs were un propitious. Towards the small hours this morning, a long loud wail of ngonv might have been heard from the innermost recesses of this office. It was only the editor thraihing a small boy who had made " pye" of the " form" containing the supplementary matter.
