The annual meeting of ratepayers wus held in the Blockhouse, llar.ipipi, on thfc 31st July Mr. A. S.'Sherret, having been elected chairman, read the advertisement conrer^ng the meeting, and thJ minutes of last anrnril meeting, which after somd discussion wereconfirmei. The chairman of the late Board rl?ad' the sfcatfc merit of accounts which was as follows : — Receipts— To rates oollected, SS^ 13a 6 1 ; amount received from Colonial Government — Road Board grants, 93H2s ; amount received from Provincial G-oVijrnment— from ordinary Appropriations, 37^ lOi ; Missccllanrous — sundries, 51 ; total, 2271 153 6J. Expenditure .—Paid for forming roads, ldM 9s ; bin <ges and culverts, 261 11s 41° other works, 241 IG*. 81 ; salaries and rent, 2*11 ; legal expenses, printing and advertising, 21 XL-, miscellaneous — sundries, 121 10s Id; total, 28M Is Id. Amount of rates payable fjr fie year, 103/ 6s 2d ; amount actually received to date, SSI 13s 6.1; tosil amount of arrears of rates for past yea>s. 5312 a 7d j rate per £ (upon v«lue to sail or let, as the ca^e may be) of list rate levied, one penny in £ on value to sell. The balan c sheet having been passed Mr Me Minn proposed "Mi it a rate of one penny iv tho pound on the value to sell be struck, and that the rateable property iv the district be valued by »he Trustees." Seconded by Mr Edwards. Mr llosborough proposed that the rate be £d in the pound. «ecomlevl by Mr Rollo. Oa the amend-, incut being pnt to tbe meeting 13 votes were recorded, for it. For the original motion there were 15 vote 3, and one penny in the p mnd was declared to bet'.io rate for tl/e current year. 'Ihe following Trustees wore elected :— Messrs J. Hodgson, E. Ck McMinn, T. Hosboruagh^ P. James, and W. Livingstone. • Ujeasra D Kollo and J. Sherret were appointed auditors ; and t Messrs A. y. felierret and J. Morrison, fenceI viewers. Jtme^ proposed an-l Mr J. it, Thompson seconded, thut the future Board' should betfin allvtorka on the roarii soon enough to enable them to be done before the bad wither sets in, as the late system was a IO3S to both contractoif and r^epayfrs. As this motion, was considered a voto of censure on the Jate board (vllhough not meant -a* such), Mr James withdrew it. It was resolved thit alut be prepared and ihe district b« canvassed .to see how much can ba collected towards building a schoolhouse* . '
