PUKERIMU HIGHWAY DISTRICT.
The annual meeting of the ratepayers of this district was held at Invanayole Station, on Saturday the 24th insb. Mr Samuel Fleming was called to the chair. The report and balance sheet were submitted. Receipts, rates collected, 2541, 7s Oa ; Government grant, 2191. 15s OJ ; balance of old granb from Government, 151. Lss Od ; expenditure, forming roads, 3421. 3s 9d ; bridges and culverts, 119 1. 17s Id ; other .works, 921. 12s Od; commission on rates, "20Z. 17s 8d • salaries, 51. Os Od ; advertising, 51. 17s 31; sundaes, 51 Oa Od; /I he report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted. Propased by Hr Walker, and seconded by Mr XVSts'bn, that the rate for the ensuing year be town acres 6d,'' 50-acre sections 21, and swamp land three farthings .per acre. Town acre valued ab (51. . 50-acre sect ions' at 2t, and swamp lam] al loa per acre. Proposed as amendment by Mr John Fisher, and seconded by Mr Harrie, thai swampland be valued at 20s per acre. Proposed ,bv Mr Eoberb Fisher, and seconded by Mr Kichard Parker, th*J; town acres be ralued at 12/ ; "50-acre sections at $1 ; and swamp land at 30s per acre, and the riite be on.© penny in the pouud. The original motion as amended by Mr Fisher was carried. Ovriitg to the low rate struck it' was difficult to form a Board for the ensuing year, but, after considerable de^ay, the following gentlemen agreed to, s]band, and ware duly eleo: ed : Messi'd ivamiiel Fleming, JJQ^ph Gane, William Scott, Robert Fisher, and Kichard Karker. A vote of thauks was proposed to the out-going" Board, and the meeting separated. Tkenetf Board then, met and elected Samuel Fleming cnairrnan.- !
