DUNEDIN. (From our own Correspondent.) Great Fire and Loss. The Insurances. Monday evening.
A tremendous fire occurred on Friday night at Kaikora, when Flaxman's fellmongery and woolsheds were. totally destroyed. The firemen were quicklyitt* the spot, and, there was plenty of water obtainable from the creek "near the works, but no apparatus was available to thffW water on the fire. The glare from the conflagration was terrific and lit up the whole of the town. Flaxman's establishment was insured for 8,000/. in the South British. Tliey lose 500/. ; and the New Zealand Company, 900/.
