PROPOSED PUBLIC HALL.
* s A meeting of the special committee appointed "by the Hope of Waikato Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was held at the office of Messrs Madden and O'Neill, on Wednesday evening last, when Mr C. E. Madden was elected chairman, and MrO. O. Montrose, secretary pro tern. A report -was agreed to, which was brought up at the weejdy lodge meeting of the -Order on Thursday evening. A free site, with a •clear title, had been offered in Hamilton East, and we understand that subsequently a member of the order has offered another free «ite in the same neighbourhood, the title to be given wlien the •donor comes of age. The report also stated that •a piece of Governnment land was available as a site, and it was believed that if proper representations were made, the Government would grant the site. The committee estimated that a sum of. £100 might be collected" towards the cost of •erecting a Reading Room' and Library for the use ' of the inhabitants of Hamilton, and they recommended that a company be formed with a capital of £300 for the purpose of adding a public hall, to be used as a place of meeting, for public entertainments, and as a lodge-room, the capital to be raised in 300 shares of £1 each, 2s 6d to be paid on application, 2a 6d on allotment of shares, the balance of |5s per share to ,be -called up in calls of 28^ pei^sh^te, at intervals between each call of not leW&aiftne fltonth) also recomHiended that^j^«#fcjie 30(\shfyres*be reserved, to fbe issued as occatton might fVjuire to meet contingent expenses, &cV The Committee further recommended that the total area of the hall and readingroom be 100 ft by 40ft, divided as follows :—anteroom in front of hall, 40ft by Bft ; hall, 72ft by 40ft, 10ft by 40ft of the latter being appropriated as a, .-stage or platform ; and a library and reading-room 20ft by 40ft, with separate entrance. It was l'ecommended that the arrangements of the building be such that the reading-room might be open for the ; mse of members without inconvenience from the hall. The report also stated that one of the bre--4kejrn o£ the order had offered to supply timber at Is per 100 feet below the ordinary market price,, ifcnd that another had offered a quantity of timber .as a donation for the purpose. The report will be ♦considered at the next meeting of the Lodge.
