Special for New Zealand. The Provincial Question. Reply to Sir G. Grey's Petition. Imperial Government Declines to Interfere.
The Earl of Carnarvon has replied to Sir George Grey's petition, praying the Imperial Gov eminent to interfere to prevent the abolition of the provinces, and to repeal the Land Compact of 1856. The Earl declines to interfere, considering that the Colonial Parliament is quite competent *o deal with the matter.
