STOP MY PAPER!
Our readers wtilfWi^lber\iat»i ito last issue we published amtingiy^lter in which we were tdyeateno*with\e p^in^gd penalties of the law if w» did not insertf an abject apology for a trifling error contained iv a report appearing in this journal under its late editor. We made careful inquiry into tho matter of Mr Hewitt's complaint from the most reliable persons, and at the earliest possible opportunity made the amende honorable. We declined to offer the abject apology which Mr Hewitt demanded, and hence the foltowing epistle :—: — "Shy Be Kind enough to Cease sending Copy 01 Times to me, as I shall discontinue my subscription from this Date. " Yours, etc., "E. Hewitt. # " Cambridge, June 16, 1875." We are sorry to lose Mr Hewitt from the list of subscribers to the <• Tiara," but if he chooses to deprive his cusion'!^%fthe^uxuryjyie loss will probably fall upofldii^eji we shall not put up theVmtteS^and go zktxXjjgjLckcloth and ashes over Mr^Lewitt's secession, nor shall we turn aside from the straightforward course which we have marked out. Any injury inadvertently done to any man's private or public character in these columns. for intentional wrong we shall scrupulously avoid — we shall always be ready and anxious to make full and becoming reparation for ; but we shall not reduce ourselves to the degraded level of mere cringing time-servers and toadies for scores of such subscribers as he who has taken his leave of us in the above affecting lines. Poor Hewitt 1 We hope his overcharged feelings are relieved by this hysterical outburst of indignation, and lavish expenditure of capital letters.
