They pleaded ignoiance of, being on his land, and Bafti had they known it was his land they would not be there. Martin Fitzgerald, laborer, in the employ of Mr Douglas, deposed that he heard shooting *hd saw gun-smoke on his master's land. Mr houglas was very particular about his game. Po; th* defence, <t John Wood, butcSer, residing at Hamilton, deposed that on the day in question he and others were shooting on native land (Te Eaihi's aud tliuwfords'). Wai not on Do^la.' had.
