The Waipa Election. The Poll to be Protested. Painful Suicide. AUCKLAND. Wednesday Evening.
The " Star," in a leading article, strongly condemns the Returning Officer for postponing the polling for Waipa, which it characterises as an elec-_ tion dodge. It says it is in a position to state that legal proceedings will be taken to upset the election. The article says : We tmdei stand that it has been industriously circulated that Morria, having sold his business, as a storekeeper in Hamilton, has no right to represent the district, but Morris' interests | are still as great in the district as ever. The pro- ! ceeds of the sale of his business remain in his own hands, hut besides this, Morris merely retires from his business to more closely apply himself to his large farm, situate between Hamilton and STjjaruawahia. . He has leased liw business premises at Hamilton at a good rental, and his propei ty there still retained by him is worth over .£2,000. At an inquest held on the body of MrSextie, the evidence of his wife shewed that he was very much in debt, depressed, and had been drinking. She believed he took poison. He frequently threatened suicide when drunk. The inquest was adjoorned, for the doctor's annalysis of the contents of his stomach. Dr Philson, while engaged in a post mortem examination, accidentally cut his hand with the instrument. The limb has TwJen poisoned, and the accident causes some apprehension.
