$IR, —ln your paper of last Saturday, in the Licensing Court, Alexandra, you state : " The application for a renewal of the license of Henry Lewis, for the Te Awamutu Hotel was refused ; the application of James Canny, for new license, was also refused upon the ground, that plans of the building had not been lodged with the Clerk of the Court. This was all the business transacted. The Bench, at the conclusion, intimated that they were resolved in future to grant licenses to such houses only as were conducted in a rmtaier calculated to promote the comfortns^he^nblic^ind would not tolerate mere drinkiri^tbcSijhs.' 1 % Wellifl^v Bdibor, this\nigljii lea^the public to think that iky license was wfused onaccount of my house not .beiH^ properly coralucted; therefore, will you allow me to state that my license was refused on account of the house being in a dilapidated state. As regards Mr Canny's, the Commissioners said that one house was quite sufficient for the requirements -of Te Awamutu, and granted a license to Bertram. I am a gr^at looser by the refusal of my license. I paid to Mr Simpson .£250 only six mouths ago, for the good will; nevertheless, I must give the Commissioners great credit for their decision^ as there is only room for one house. The house, which is about".to Jje Iteensed, will be a credit to the Waipa district) \^% \ \,. >^ YouVW.,
H. Lewis.
