LICENSING COURTS.— Alexandra.
At a sitting of this Court yesterday, the following applications for the renewal of licenses were granted : Hugh Kirkw^pod, for Alexandra Hotel, Alexandra ;' ~T!Wuel Bright^ Royal Exchange Hotel, Alexandra ; Amice John Bertram, Central Waikato Hotel, Te Awamutu ; Thomas Anderson, Kihikihi Hotel, Kihikihi ; William Corboy, Alpha Hotel, Kihikihi; J. T. Edwards, Ohaupo Hotel, Ohaupo. The application for a renewal of the license of Henry Lewis, for theTeAwamutu Hotel, was refused. The application of James Canny, for new license for the Criterion fiotel, Te Awamutu, was also refused upon the ground that plans of the building had not been lodged with the Clerk of the Court. This was all the business transacted. The Bench, at the conclusion, intimated that they were resolved in future to grant licenses to such houses only as were conducted in a manner calculated to promote the comfort of the public, and would not tolerate mere drinking booths.
