Hamilton, „1 / av| 26th AprV, 1575 / 'fi ENTLEMEN, \ / In reply tl your requisition, 1 beg to inform you that I shall be baypy to repr*ent tbe District of Waipa in the Provincial Council, tn the event of my being elected I will do all Yin my ponpr to advocate the interests of the district. wly long with it, in % public position, has enlbled m/ to form a tolerably correct opinion as to whal those /interests, are. I shall take an early opportunity Vf definitely stating my views -■# on the public questions of t^ day. I remain, \ I GentlemeV / % Your obVfient Servabt, afcoRGE JONES, Juur.

npO THE ELECTOR* \F THE WAIPA J- district\ 1 Gentlemen, — When I accepted yoVr invitation to stand for electioji, I promised to {/to a ehor^Btatement as to my rlews on the quistions of the day, w\ich bear upon the position I aspire to. Any Action that th\ Provincial Council may take is not likely to affect one wa\ or the other the abolition of the Provinces! I may state,Yiowever. that my influence will be used *> procure their alplition, provided that the measure apphe/ to both islands, a\d the institutions to be substituted/ for them are such Vis I think will conduce to the benefit hi country settlers. \ I am of opinion th/t the present Education system has proved a failure in thfe Waikato. This has atsen probably not from any other /efect in the Act than tie insufficient funds thereby provided. I think also that if Jhe Provinces ■are to continue * existence the funds fir education must be provided/from ordinary provincial Avenue, and not by a special lax, which is necessarily unLjual in its .pressure. If I anf returned I shall give the prVsent Rond ►Board system mV earnest eonuderation, and en|ea\our to introdnce a mealure that will render it more efficient. I am clearly of opinion that the main roads of tUX district should be supported by the Government, and fihe Road Boards thus relieved from responsibility whih their limited means/render them iy!ahj«ito bear with satisfaction. I will do all iif my power toXiß^e llpon the Council the ne- , ceaaity of prosecuting the^nftnfction of the road Apm the Waikato to/the Thame/ afcf that from Raglan |o the Waipa. I/m fully alive to ihe importance of Haling a bridge acrois the river at Hamilton, I mention thai place hecause 1 lelieve that a bridge there would benef* the largest nimher of settlers The Thames ia the ultural outlet forfthe stock of the Waikato and throogh Haililton along tbp read aow being surveyed is clearly the Anost contepriftat means of communication, I will endeavoit, if returrfapto secure that something shall, if possible, be*)ne to ovj.rJkwo fine rivers, to render them more useful \nn the\v«-e at present during the dry season of the year, lle-'-TM^JWer that the country which is now known as mie "Wailato is only small in extent to that which judiciois treatment of the natives will enable it to become in a ieLr yeafs. Withfhis opinion|in view the roads from Cambridl to»he Lak«i and East Coast will necessarily huve my al te/tion. 1 lif elected, I shall at all tines he ready to act upon th\ Aiggestion of every settler who points out m what manned I can advance the interests of those who have done me thel /bonor to return me as their representative I GEORGE JONES, June. April 30, 1575.
