THAMES AND WAIKATO ROAD v RAGLAN AND WAIPA ROAD.

To Mie Editor of the Waikato Times. Sir > — I see in your issue of the 13th, a letter from Mr Baber, urging the necessity of communication between tins Thames and the Waikato, at the moderate cost of twenty thousand pounds. I fully agree with him on the desirability of such a progtessive fit^p, at the same tim * I think he is slightly in error in stating it to be the nearest wharfage for the produce of the Upper Waikato, as taking Te A warn utu as the centre of the Upper Waikato, from there to either of the three west coast ports, I should say is not more than two thirds the distance to where Mr B.iber proposes to have his wharf on the Thames river. I think tho Waikato procluco will more likely find its way by rail to Auckland than by a long dray road, either to a shipping port on the Thames river, or to one of our west coast ports, but I think the settlers in the whole of the Waikato would appreciate a good dray road to the west coast, where they could drive their wives and families to enjoy the bracing west coast sea breezes, and the settlers here would then be able to avail themselves ot the advantages of quick transit to Auckland by rail, as well as obtain an increase in their population, and many other advantages, and I hope the Waipa settlers will not bo so apathetic as to allow their district to go iinropre rented in the Provincial Council this session, but that they will elect a member who will co-operate with the member for Raglan, in urging our new Superintendent to use his interest in making the long talked of Raglan and Waipa road a reality, — I am, &c. T. B. Hill.
