Sir, — Mr J. Baber, C. X., is very anxious to impress the people of the Thames and Waikato, with the idea that we are greatly indebted to Mr < )'Neil, for his advocacy of the road to the Thames. At the sametime is MrO'Neil'sletteiyippeared the reply from the Government that they had already taken action in the matter. It is also patent to most readers that the smie thing was brought prominently before Sir D. McLean, by a deputation of Waikato settlers. I i fact, this subject has been handled so often that it is fairly in rags, and why we are so much in Mr O'-NVil's debt, I cannot make out. If honor is due to any one it is to the late Mr W.
