Melbourne, April 14. Two girls have been drowned in a water-bole at Durham Lead. One drawing watev slipped in, and the other attempted to rescuo^ier. Mr Belcher has been returned for the SouthWestern province over Wynn. The Catholic hiei-.uchy have found occasion to rejoice at this result, and announce that every election will be contested in favour of a change in the Bducition Act. Mr B. Carrol, one of the members of the Assembly for Ararat, has been arrested for some extensive forgerios. The prelimanary investigation is now being proceeded with.
Sydney, April 14. The rush to North Queensland diggings continues. Nearly 2000 Chinamen arrived, and 8000 more are waiting to arrange for transit. Great opposition is shewn to Chinese emigration, and the Government patronised a bill, dealing especially with the question. Plenty of gold is coming in, bur fever is prevalent and blacks are troublesome. A number of deaths are reported.
Adelaide, April 14. A m in named Sneyd is ordered for execution for wife murder. " > Aseunan of H.M.& Sapphire has been committed for murder of a shipmate named Lewis. The exploration around Lake Hope is successful, and the international interests were unaffected.
