In the event of Mr Disraeli's withdrawal from public life, the Duke of Richmond would probably assume the leadership of his party. The leadership in the House of Commons lies between Mr Hardy and Sir Stafford Northcote. The workpeople employed by several Walsall and Wednesbury firms, have struck against a return to the 10 hours' system. 15,000 shipwrights on the Tyne have struck agaiast a reduction, notice of which was given three months ago. *At Preston, among the operative spinners and winders, there is an agitation for an advance springing up, and a general lock-out is imminent throughout the woollen manufactories of Yorkshire. A survey party on the Nagua hills was suddenly and treachously attacked by a hill tribe, and Lieutenant Holcorabe and 63 men were killed, while Captain Badgeley and 50 more were badly wounded, though they escaped.
