GOOD TEMPLARISM.

Tho Lodge " Hope of Waikato " was opened at Hamilton on Thursday last. Miss M. Knox, a young laclj^i*»tn Auckland, presided over the meeting. It Was the original intention to have held a public meeting, which some friends of the cause were to have addressed ; the inability of these to attend caused the meeting to be a private one for the initiation of members only. Unfortunately a number of people did not notice the advertisement altering the constitution of the meeting, and consequently much discontent resulted on the part of those disappointed. Upwards of twenty members were initiated, amongst them were some of 'the I hitherto most faithful and indefatigable worshippers of Bacchus in the district. We learn that at the next meeting on Tuesday, several additional members are likely to come forward and embrace the cause of temperance. We wish the lodge every success, as we feel confident that it cannot fail to prove a great blessing to many who will join and adhere to the precepts of the order. The meetings of the body will be held in the Independent Chapel, Hamilton East, which has been kindly lent for the purpose.

The ' Tract D'Union ' says that Protestantism sustained by funds from the United States and London, is making an active propaganda ii> the Republic of Mexico, and the number ot churches is increasing. Not a month pnsses without conflicts occurring between Catholics and ErotestHnts.
