SIR GEORGE GREY ON THE LATE MR. WILLIAMSON.
The following letter was received- .on Feb. 1 8 by the Provincial Secretary from Sir George Grey :—: — Kavau, Feb. 17th, 1g74. My Dear Sir, — It was with the greatest concern that I heard late yesterday of the death of my valued friend, Mr. John Williamson, the Superintendent of the province. lam unfortunately very unwell myself, having been nearly confined to my room for the last ten days, and I am still too unwell to undertake even a short journey. I shall thus be unable to go to Auckland to attend Mr. Williamsons funeral, and to pay the last token of respect and regard to a man whose public career I have watched for many years, and have seen it distinguished by rare integrity, unselfishness, and devotion to what he sincerely believed to be the pubic good. Having said this you may imagine how much I feel and lament his loss. Yours, &c, (Signed) G. Grey. J. Sheehan, Esq., Provincial Secretary,
