DAYLESFORD DISTRICT.
The forest around this borough was alight in evciy direction on Tuesday. So far as we have learned, the following are the particular of the losses in this district :— Mr. J. H. Wheeler had thiee miles of tramway burned, and with difficulty saved his lower null from destruction. Mr. L. Dyei, ; Mr. Biomley, /250 ; Mr. Callaghan, 5 Mr. Wheeler, estimates his los, at £350. Mi. Oir estimates his loss at £300. At Boning, a fire spiang up suddenly, and before sufficient aid could airive entiiely consumed the homestead:, of Mr. William Peiryman and Mr. Tames King. A hoise terribly scorched, was the only living thing, saving the people which escaped. The following cases of death from sunstroke aie repoited :— Peter Ciawford, at Mount Nooiat ; Mary M'Laven, Ballarat ; and Wm. Ciee, Steiglitz. Geo. Robinson, at Benalla ; and Isaac Russell, at Lancefield, also became insensible fiom sunstroke. A destructive fire had occurred among the fai ras on Point Henry. The Fne King has also been reigning biipreme in the vicinity of the township of Lome. The bush fnes during the week have destroyed propei ty at Daniwell and Sheoaks to the extent of between £2,000 and £3000 in value. The countiy for many squaie miles has been cleaied of fencing and pasturage. Twenty selectors at least are sufferers from the lavages of the fire.
