MEL BOURNE. Jan 27.
For five Consecutive days the Thermometers range between 100° and 110° in the shadp, with a burning and scorching wind. The water supply pirtially gave out. Numerous deaths occurred from the effects of th-i heat, including several cases of sun stroke, the weather now is quite cool. The Torres Strait* mail steamer Tribune, arrived at Townsville, yesterday. A conference of the members of the various Transit of Venus parties will be held during the month. Tne Panama Mail Steamer Japan, has been burned between San Francisco aud Hong Kon^, 483 passengers aboard. One hundred and seven teen saved. The Nango, is totall#slost.
