( FROM A CORRESPONDENT.)

Last Thursday was a general holiday ; at an early hour in the morning our township was alive with holiday makers from the country, who were arriving to take part in a public pic-nic which was to be given at Horea beyond Rag-Jan, a shady spot celebrated for such gatherings* on the other side of the harbour, had been selected, to where the party crossed over in boats, all radiant with smiles, and intent upon enjoying themselves. It is only about once a year that such dissipation is practised here, the usual monotony laid asMe, and one witnesses such a galaxy of beauty and fashion as was assembled together last Thursday : an alfresco luncheon was the order of the day, to which ample justice was done by both young and old. Towards sun-down the holiday makers recrossed to the township, where they had intended indulging in the terpsichorean art, but owing to some hitch the votaries of that muse were doomed to disappointment. The Immigrants cottages are beginning to look like houses, and will when finished improve the appearance of the village wonderfully, and present a contrast to the old paint-wanting habitations. The wharf presents quite a lively appearance with the two cutters Mercury, and Dawn, lying alongside, the former brings a cargo of timber for the immigrants cottages.
