MEETING AT RUAPUKE

The usual annual meeting for tbe election of tho School Committee was held at JRuapuke on the 10th Januan. On the motion of Mr Hill, seconded by Mr LtddeL, Mr Johnstone took the chair. The lollowiug report was read by the secretary of the committee . — In consequence of the appointment of a new teacher the school session for 1874 did not commence till th©4ihof February, from whicii date operations luva been steadily carried on. Tho number ol names on the roll amounted during the Decomber quart u- t<. 23, and the average utten dance to 20, showing a t«le tilings and regularity in the attendance ot the pupils of the most satisfactory character. It is to be regretted that the examination by printed papers in December as promised by tbe Board, was not carried out, as the committee beiieve such a course followed year by year would ofl'er a reliable and appreciable te»t of the progress made by the pupils. The so, 00l building erected by tbe settlers has been found to be rather small for the numbers attending, and it is to be hoped soino improvement in this respeut may shorth be made. Negotiations are at present pending with the Native Minister in reference to tl>€ education ot maon children in the neighborhood, which in all probability will be successful, in which case no doubt a building of sufficient capacity will be provided. A portion of the school land, sufficient for a cricket ground, has been cleared and ploughed, and it ill in the proper season be laid down in grass and provided with swings, horujntal bars, &c, so that phjbical education may nut be overlooked. The committee also leel great pleasure in acknowledging the services rendered ly Mr Frezell in gratuitously surveying the BchCol lVjti\ri. ° *\"".ra Hill, Luldell. rWin, Ellis, and Dobaon were uu,mimou*h eke rd members* of the poinimtleo for li>7s. \n<>r r. roto oi ihai^kn to the chairman, the meeting i c Dar.it (ul , • "
