RAGLAN. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT. )

There is on view at the Post-office, Ragkn, a very handsome silver inkstand, a massive pencil-case, and stamp box, on the cover of which is the following inscription :- " Presented to James La Trobe, E\q! by his Raglan friends, as a mark of their esteem." Mr La Trobe was amongst the earliest of the Raglan settlers, and has always been highly respected by all who knew him. For bomo time past ho has been engaged in scholastic duties, but owing to the constant changes in the administration of our Provincial Education Act, ho deemed it most to his interest to serve under the (ieneral Government: he has therefore undertaken the instruction of younomaorr children. When it became known that h% was about to leave the district, his fellow-settlors determined to show their attachment to him by presenting him with a suitable souvenir as a slight recognition of their regard, and in acknowledgement of the many public services he has rendered gratuitously. Raglan, althongh destined by nature to become a favourite sea-side resort of the Waikite settler, is at present a most neglected and isolated dUrict and can ill afford to lose a good settler.
