Auckland, Monday. Cecilia Allen was accused of wilfully setting fire to Mr Howard's house at the North "Shore. The sergeant-major deposed that she confessed to committing the crime, after having made several previous attempts. She was remanded until Monday, when a second charge will be heard. The Hero has sailed.
Dunedin, Monday. At an adjourned meeting of the Jockey Club held on Saturday night last it was decided to disqualify Mabel, The case Canning v. Martin which was to serve as a test case for the different actions against the " Comet." Judgment was given for the plaintiff for £35, with costs amounting to at least £50 more. Mabel's disqualification is to last for ever. The question of the disqualification of Captain Hutchcson is left open in case further evidence should be obtained.
"Wellington, Monday. Arrangements arc being made for the reception of the new Governor, Lord Normanby, who it is expected will arrive hero on Friday next. The day will be proclaimed a Public Holiday. All the various Orders and Friendly Societies will be communicated with to ascertain if they desire to take part in the public reception.
