GRAND LODGE OF SCOTLAND.
The quarterly communication of this body was held in tho Freermnons' ilall, Edinburgh, on the l»t August. ; and, in the unavoidable nbcence of the M W. Grand Mmter, the throne was occupied by C.iptam J T. Oswald, of Dunnikier, R.W. Substitute Grand Master, supported by Major Hamilton Kumsoy, of Garion, and F. A. Bhm'ow, First Grand Wardens; W. Mann, Past Gr.md Warden; John Lnwrir, Grand Seeretnry ; William Hay, Junior Grander; Alexander Hay, Grand Jeweller; (Jiipiam Colt, of G.irtshernp, Grand Sword-bearer; I?. S. Melville, President ol the Board of llflrond Stewards; Duniel llibertson, Grand Biblo-bearor ; (J. W. M. Muller, Grand Dire.-tor of Mu«ic; R. Davidson, Grand Organist ; M. Mai kcnzm, Chief Grand Marshal ; and W. M. Bryoo, Grand Tyler. The Grand Lodge having been opened in due form, and the usual preliminary business having been disposed of, the acting Grand Master adverted in feeling terms to the severe loss uustuined by the craft in tho death* of I lie Pmsl. Grand Master, the Earl of Dulhousifl, and Deputy Grand Master Lord James C. P. Murray ; and the Gnind Secretary rend Idlers from the Grand Master, Sir Michael R. Shaw Stewart, and the Post Grand Master, the Right lion the Jfiarl oi Koslin, expressive of their personal regret, and the heart ine-s with which they united with the Grand Lodge in expressing sympathy with tiie lelotives of the departed brethren. The Grand Lodge thereafter adopted two letters of condolence, and unanimously agreed to hold a funeral Grand Lodge in memory of tho departed, tho arronfrements for which were remitted to tho Board ol Grand Stowards, with tho suggestion that the dale thereof should bo fixed for the second Monday in October next. On the recommendation of the Grand Committee, Bro. Daniel Calvin was appointed Provincial Grand Muster for Peru. The Grand Secretary rend a letter of resignation from Brot her W. M Boyce, Provincial Grand Master for Queensland, consequent on severe famil) bereavement, which was accepted, and a voto of thanks given for past service*, with an expression of regret for the esuso of retirement. Tho matter of granting a charter for a new lodge at. Springburn, Glasgow, was then considered, and after some discussion, it was ultimately resolved that tho petition could not be entertained, in rpppuct of its not being in ordor. Thereafter the, Grand Lodge wm closed in duo form by tho It.W. Substitute Grand Master.
