Grey to publish another paper on the Constitutional position of the colony ; ho recommend-, closer union with the old country, and "proposes a Secretary for State in each colony reside London bo placed direct communication with the Imperial Government all matters affecting colonies."

Wellington, Wednesday. Since the auction sale of provincial land there has been a steady flow of applications for unsold sections, and, as in several casos, many applications have been made for the same sections. The Government had to hold another auction sale to-day and giye highest bidders a chance. The result was that the majority of sections were parted with considerably beyond upset price. The health of the immigrants by Douglas is re-established. Mr Rattray. the late president of the Dnnedin Cricket Club, was yesterday presented by the club with a bat with ornamental silver plate and an inscription. He leaves for Europe to-morrow. The Revs O'Leary and Walsh, new Roman Catholic ministers, are pasl songers by the Calypso, from London. The second half-yearly report of the National Insurance Company shews the the total receipts for the past halfyear to be £29,160 8s 2d ; expenses, £13,518 18s 6d; leaving a surplus of £15,641 9a Bd, after deducting £7588 19s Bd, the losses for the half-year. Less accounts, £23,016 8s 6d. The directors recommend £15,000 to be set apai*t for the formation of a reserve fund. A dividend of ten per cent, has been declared on the paid-up capital (£35,000), and the balance is to be carried forward to the next halfyear. The dividend is payable on November 17. Dunedin, Tuesday. The Press Dramatic Club is now fairly started here. At a meeting on Saturday night it was stated that nearly sixty members had joined, and the meeting proceeded to the election of a president. The Press Dramatic Club give a performance on November 9, in, aid of the Hattie Sheppard Memorial Fund. Some ballasting trucks were left on Green Island line this morning, and a passenger train ran into them. Nine passengers were seriously injured, and some severely bruised. The fault lay with the locomotive foreman, who was immediately discharged.
