(To the Editor of the Waikato Times.) Sin, — Owing to the prominence given to my name in reference to the capture of a notorious criminal, and allusions to Ins escape after being under my supervision for tyro days, I think it only right you should have a correct account oi j liis recapture. The facts arc these : — Shine having threatened to burn down ltangiriri, and destroy all those connected with his detention, Mr Pratt, Mr Bees, and I made an expedition to the Whangamanno bridge. We waited there till 3 o'clock in the morning (it was particularly cold and dark) at that time we captured the prisoner. Notwithstanding his threatening me with " stoel," we quietly persuaded him that it was necessary that he should proceed to Mercer, in order to be accommodated with comfortable quarters by the constable there. — I am, &c, J. A. Harding.
