The case of Maurice Doyle was the first on the list, but, as has been already mentioned in our columns, he had extricated himself from the custody of the police, and his little matter was adjourned for a more convenient season. Peter Lavery Again, — This person of " Doggy" celebrity, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Hamilton West. Fined fis and costs. Drunk and Incapable. — Thomas Hayes, for the above offence, received a gentle warning from the paternal .Bench, and was ordered to pay the costs of the Court, 3s. If lie was incapable the night before of properly using his mental faculties, he was equally incapable on tins occasion of paying the 3s, and was on the point of being conducted to his Government quarters, when " Peter," his mate in adversity paid the amount for him, and he was released. Harper v. Bestic. — CLiiui j£9, for board and lodging. Judgment for plaintiff with costs. Harper v. Duval.— Claim £T 12s, principally for horse hire. Judgment for plaintiff with costs. Veith v. Mohi. — Claim i'lo. Settled out of court. Mills v. Hewitt. — Claim £16 12s Bd, wages and goods supplied. Mr Whitaker for plaintiff; Mr Madden for defendant. The defence in this case was that plaintiff had agreed with defendant to construct a certain number of mattrasses at a rate of 13s Gd each, and the plaintiff stated that no such agreement ever existed, and that he was entitled to receive 10s a day for the time he was employed upon the work. After hearing a good deal of contradictory evidence, the Bench gave judgment for plaintiff for the amount claimed, and £2 15s costs. This was the whole of the business.
