The Times says a telegram was received yesterday, stating that several members of the family of King Pota-tau arc en route for Auckland, being their first visit to that city since the last war. New Plymouth, Saturday. The Schooner Garibaldi, from Lyttleton, reported to have been lost, arrived hist night. She had been lying in Ship's Cove during the bad weather. The Elizabeth Curie, from Lyttelton, has also arrived. Christchiu'ch. Saturday. The members of the expedition for observing* the transit of Venus have decided te erect the observatory at Burnham, 18 miles from Christchurch. The Philosophical Institute have elected them honorary members and givan them a dinner. Dunedin, Saturday. The visit of the Victorian cricket team this summer is certain. A resident here offers to bring them over himself and supply the funds. Mr Beal, as representing three gentlemen, has already taken the matter up, and is now in Melbourne negotiating. TheServants' Home, Dunoi lin, is fairly established. A meeting held yesterday decided that the establishment was highly necessary. A committee was formed to frame rules. Bishop Neville and Archdeacon Edwards spoke very strongly on the bad management of several registry offices here. The former said if the law on the point would enable him he would himself move in the matter against keepers, and suggested the establishment of a refuge to the Home of a character which could not be impungod. Thames, Saturday. Tarapipipi, chief of the Ngatipoa, up the Piako river, has written slating that he commanded the closing of the river, and deputed one of his people to write to that effect, and that the letter purported to bo written by Mr Adlain, was done by the deputy. He also denies Major George's statement that he ever told the Major he was a dissentient from closing the river, and to this effect he has written to Messrs Morrin and Puckoy that the river must be closed.
