A man named Wood is missing from tho Waikalo Head*, wheio ho lias been resident for tho lust sixteen years lie was a fisherman by trade. The captain of the Luna reports that, outside the North Heads he found his boat and everything iusido complete. The members of the AletanJra Philharmonic Society gave their firut concert on Thursday last in fho school-room ; the attendance was very good considering the wretched state of Die roads and weather. As the society has only been in existence for about two months, and the performers have not had many opportunities of practising together, owing to the severe weather that we have had lately, we could notexpecfc a very grand performance; hoifovcr, we wore agreeably surprised at what wo did hear, aud think tlmfc the audience wero very woll satisfied with thoir evening's entertainment. Too much praise cannot bo accorded to tho conductor, who has brought his pupils out well. It is such a wonderful and rare occurrence in country audiences, that wo could not help remarking the entire absence of that abominable practice of st raping time with foct when piecos are being played and scngs are being rendered. Wo congratulate tho audience on their good bohavior, and the performers on the progress that they have made and hopo that the society may flourish, and often give us similar treats to tho one we onjoyeJ on Thursday lust. Our correspondent at Hamilton has not furnished m with an account of tho concert givrn under the auspices of the Entertainment Committee. The matter escaped our notice till after the office was closed, or we would have had particulars telegraphed in full. We learn that a considerable quantity of land about Kopua i« under water. Tho owners are fikoly to be heavy suftvrers. We remind settlers that tickets for tho complimentary dinner to Mujor Jackson, M. H. R. are now to be procured at tho plaow appointed by advertisement. It is to be hoped that the settlers will for once show that they feel an interest in political affairs, by attending in large numbers to hear the gallant Major's explanation of tho present position of the colony. It is purposed to hold the following religious services in the Wiukato to-morrow :— Church of England— Alexandra, 11 a.m. ; Te Awamutu, 3 p.m. ; Kihikibi, 6.30 p.m. j Hamilton, 11 a.m. ; Ngaruawahia, 11 a in. and 630 p.m. Cambridge, 11 a.m. Wesleyan Methodist— Cambridge, 11 a.m. ; Te Awamntu, 11 a.m.; Pukmmu, 2.30 p.m.j Hamilton, 6.30 p.m. United Presbyterian and Congregational— Eangiaohia, 3 p.m. On Tuesday the ciipb Vinlou r. Harper was board by Mr W. N. Searancke, EM, and Mr S. T. Seddon, J.P. The clnim was for £20 for services rendered as an architect in erecting additions to the Hamilton Hotel. Mr Whitaker appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Madden for defendant. A considerable amount of evidence was taken for both sides, and that of Mr Koalsas td the custom as regards architects' charge", which had been taken in tho R.M. Court, Auckland, was read. Judgment for plantiff for £16 13s and £11 17s costs. Those who take an interest in tho work of acclimatisation will read the following information from the Bra c Herald with interest :— " Partridges «ro now so pleutii'ul that they stray into Palmerstoh, and in crossing the roid they striko the telegraph wires, which, causes thoir death. Tho Shag River rontains a million of trout fiom the size of minows to full of 161bs weight. Tho Shag River should be thrown open to tho public. ' Shudo of Walton !'
