Arrived : Glenlora, from New Zealand ; Lady Jocelyn, from Melbourne : Gowan, Jundrau, Star of the North. August 18. The Colonial wool sales opened this evening. The arrivals amounted {to 260,000 bales. Upwards of 5000 bales were offered. The attendance of home and foreign buyers was large, and bidding commenced with great spirit. The closing rates of last sales were well maintained. Arrived : Warwick, Harvest Home, Earl of Mar, and Eellie. August 21. It is rumored that Austria and Russia has assented to recognize the Spanish Republic, in pursuance of the agreement made by the three Emperors at Berlin for common action on all disputed questionr, Discount, 3 per cent. August 22. At the wool sales competition was well maintained ; prices continue very firm. The corn market has experienced a considerable fall. The weather is now favorable for harvest operations. Di Haast. of Canterbury, has received the Order of the Iron Cross. August 25, Austria recognises the Spanish Government, but Russia refuses. The wool sales competition continues extremely vigorous, and prices show a renewal of the advance compared with previous sales of from id to lidForeign arrivals of wheat abundant, and prices fallen. Sales of new wheat yesterday ; purchases made reluctantly at a reduction of 7s. Java, August 10. The death of Sir William Faurbury is announced. Paris, August 18. A Bonapartist Deputy has been elected for Calvados by a large majority. Singapore, August 20. Rupture is threatened between China and Japan, on account of the Formosa expedition. China is making immense preparations for war.
