Taitranga, Thursday. The Immigration Buildings, from Auckland, are being erected on the old parade ground. Opotiki is beginning to bhew signs of life and prosperity. Vessels laden with produce are constautly leaving, liccently a good number of cattle have been shipped to the Auckland market. Snodgras.s and Langford arc purchasing extensively. The Southern Cross arrived yesterday, laden with valuable horses.
Wellington, Thursday. The Agency is authorised to state that reports which have appeared as to what took place or transpired in the conversation between Mr Stafford and Mr Vogel are altogether incorrect. Mi Vogel goes to Sydney about the electric telegraph cable, not about the San Francisco mail service, Mr Russell being entrusted^with the negotiation of the latter affair. The Tnbunc saj's : — " We understand his Excellency will shortly pay a visit to the province of Marlborough. Mr Seymour, Superintendent of the province, lias remained in Wellington to accompan} r him." It is understood that the necessary Order in Council authorising sale of 20,000 acres at Oraua to Douglas and Co, was signed to-day by his Excellency the Governor.
Nelson, Thursday. Mi' Luckie addressed a large meeting of his constituents last night. He dwelt principally on the abolition of the provinces question, and stated it was time that all the provinces were swept away and the land funds made colonial revenue. He referred to tho system of provincial finances in Auckland and Wellington as rotten in the exti % eme, and calling for the interference of the General Government! He said "Wellington rode rampant through the Audit Act, and the " sturdy beggar" was always trying to extract money from the General Government- It was high time the General Government reigned supreme in the colony. His reference to the abolition of the provinces was received with loud cheers. A vote of confidence was unanimously passed.
