Mr Sheehan asked the Government when Dr Hector's services would be available for making a preliminary geological inspection of Mahurangi, central Kaipara, and Wanganui districts. Mr Richardson was understood to say — sometime next September the survey would be commenced. Business in the House this afternoon unimportant. The Tamrua will be detained to go South on Saturday with members ; the Luna and Ladybird will leave for the North on the same day. The recommendations of the Colonial Industry Committee agreed to. The resolution regarding Collingwood Iron Work has been altered to this effect: "That Government be asked to consider during the recess the proposals made by Mr Anderson on behalf of the Parapara Iron Works," which the Government agreed to do. Real Estate Descent Bill and Burial Grounds Closing Bill passed. Upon the House resuming, the Excise Duties Bill was read a second time. Several members protested against it on account of destroying a colonial industry, and if people would drink alcohol they should be allowed to make it in the colony. The bill passed through all its stages. On motion for going into Committee of Supply, Messrs Murray and Thompson made lengthy remarks to the effect that our Financial, Immigration, and Public Works Policy was being carried on iv a ruinous manner. Various items of Supplementary Estimates were passed. The Premier and Minister for Public Works explained new items. A very long discussion ensued upon the amend- . men in Licensing Bill in the Legislative Council, i and members were appointed to wait upon Council J to ascertain reasons for disagreeing with them. ] The Jf ottbe adjourned at a quarter past 2. !
