CAMBRIDGE, HAMILTON, AND PIAKO ROAD.

A meeting of the subscribers to the Cambridge, Hamilton, and Piako Road Fund was held at the Royal Hotel, Hamilton, on Monday, the 24th inst., for the purpose of forming a working committee. Mr William Camming was Toted to the chair. Captain Peacock© read x letter from the Provincial Secretary in reply to a memorial from the residents of the diitrictj notifying that the Provincial Government would as requested contribute the sum of £50 towards the formation of the roid. " Captain Peacocke then pointed out that thil £60 did not < in the least effect the distinct promise of £luO which he had obtained from the Provincial Government. The £50 was in answer to a memorial from the resident! of the district, made ■ early in the autumn when that sum would have made the road passable for the winter, since then for want of this timely assistance the road had become utterly impassable. ■ This he (Captain Peacocke) had pointed out to the Govern- "" merit during the late session of the Provincial Council, and £100 was then promised conditionally upon the inhabitants subscribing a like amount. Mr Ticklepenny would', he bttievod, inform the meeting of the sum which had been tub* scribed. , , , ri ; , Mr Ticklepenny then tinncioct in a list of t'lle' subicriptiotiii which amounted to the very respectable turn of £136; this sum he stated had' be«fn 'subswibefd l on|y itr Cambridge, Hamilton, and Piako, and as so mo very large landholders were residents of Auckland, it was reasonable to expect that a sum of £40 or £50 more might yet -be subscribed. He ' hid forwarded a subscription list for this purpose to Messrs T. and S. Morrin. He also informed the meeting that somt £8 had already been expended in fascining some Tery bad portions of t.lio road. The meeting then proceeded to elect a working committee. Mr Tickleponny, Captain Peacocke, and Mr J. Wslker. were elected. ' ' A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the pro* eeedings.
